It’s much more straightforward (and manageable) than most people expect. Here’s a clear, step-by-step look at what you can anticipate when creating your estate plan.

One of the most common questions we hear is:
“What does the estate planning process actually look like—and how long does it take?”

The good news? It’s much more straightforward (and manageable) than most people expect. Here’s a clear, step-by-step look at what you can anticipate when creating your estate plan.

Step 1: The Initial Phone Call (About 30 Minutes)

Everything starts with a quick, introductory call.

During this conversation, we:

  • Learn more about your goals and family situation
  • Answer any initial questions you have
  • Explain the planning process and what to expect

This is a low-pressure, informative first step designed to make sure you feel comfortable moving forward.

Step 2: The Planning Session (About 1 Hour)

This is where the real work—and the real value—happens.

Before this meeting, you’ll complete a client questionnaire, which typically takes about 30 minutes. This helps us gather important details about:

  • Your assets
  • Your family structure
  • Your goals and concerns

With that information, your planning session becomes a focused, productive conversation where we:

  • Walk through your options
  • Make key decisions together
  • Design a plan tailored specifically to your needs

Step 3: The Signing Meeting (About 1 Hour)

Once your documents are prepared, we’ll meet again to review and sign everything.

At this meeting, we:

  • Walk you through each document in plain language
  • Answer any final questions
  • Ensure everything is properly executed

By the end, your estate plan is officially in place.

How Long Does the Entire Process Take?

From start to finish, the process typically spans about 2–4 weeks.

There is usually 1–2 weeks between each meeting, allowing time for:

  • Thoughtful planning and decision-making
  • Drafting your documents
  • Reviewing and preparing for signing

A Process Designed to Be Simple and Supportive

Estate planning doesn’t have to be overwhelming or time-consuming. In fact, most clients are surprised by how efficient—and even empowering—the process feels.

In just a few focused meetings, you can:

  • Put a clear plan in place
  • Protect your loved ones
  • Gain peace of mind knowing everything is handled

The Bottom Line

Estate planning isn’t something you have to figure out all at once. With the right guidance and a clear process, it becomes a series of manageable steps—each one moving you closer to a plan that truly works for you and your family.

And it all starts with a simple conversation.
