I'm Emily Hicks with Emily Hicks Law and this is your legal minute. Are you concerned about an elder loved one being scammed? Elder abuse is on the rise and here are the top five scams to be aware of.

  1. Government impersonation scams involve scammers pretending to be IRS, Social Security, officials.
  2. Sweep stakes and lottery scams trick seniors into sending money up front for fake winnings.
  3. Robo calls that exploit seniors by recording their voice to authorize fraudulent charges or threatening lawsuits.
  4. Computer tech support scams or scammers charge fees to fix nonexistent issues.
  5. The grandparent scam. Preying on emotions, scammers pose as family members in need of urgent financial help.
