If you are a senior moving to St. Johns County, you need to know about the Council on Aging (COA). Learn how they service for seniors in St. Johns County!

If you are a senior moving to St. Johns County, you need to know about the Council on Aging. For nearly 50 years, Council on Aging (COA) has been empowering our community’s elders to live their best lives at every age. Since serving their first congregate meals and delivering their first home-delivered meals in 1974, the focus has been on providing essential nutrition, transportation, and independent living services for the community’s elders.

It's not just for seniors!

There are two locations that actually cater to ages 18+, so it's not JUST for seniors. You can take Tai Chi classes, beginner belly dancing, learn about genealogy, join a support group for caregivers, participate in a bereavement support group, join the travel club, and so much more.

I've linked their website here. Go and look around. Each location offers some similar services and different ones as well. Here is a sampling of programs offered:

  1. Did you know that Care Connection can help with basic yardwork, budgeting, and minor home repairs?
  2. Meals on Wheels - Every day, the COA and a dedicated group of caring volunteers work diligently to provide nutritious meals to homebound elders in the St. Augustine/St. Johns County community. In addition to a daily meal, this program offers those with limited mobility an opportunity for some often much-needed social contact.
  3. Sunshine Center - Our center offers adult care with a focus on assisting individuals with memory problems. The Sunshine Center is one of just a handful of centers that are licensed to provide adult day care in St. Johns County. Participants here will enjoy skilled care, nutritious meals, exercises, socialization, and activities all geared toward improving the lives of those dealing with memory loss, brain trauma, Alzheimer’s Disease or other forms of dementia.
